All full-time status residential students (students living in Moody-owned housing) on the Chicago campus and all Bachelor of Science in Missionary Aviation Technology (BSMAT) students enrolled in and attending on-campus courses are required to be covered by Moody’s Student Health Insurance Plan or an approved alternate plan for the entire time that they are enrolled as a student, including breaks between semesters. All required students will be automatically enrolled in Moody’s Student Health Insurance Plan and charged the premium unless a waiver is received each year.
International students (F-1 Visa) on all campuses (living on-campus and off-campus) are required to be covered by Moody’s Student Health Insurance Plan. International students will be automatically enrolled in Moody Student Health Insurance Plan and charged the premium and they do not have the option to waive.
Commuter students are eligible to participate in Moody’s Student Health Insurance Plan on a voluntary basis provided that one or more of the following conditions apply: Full-time status; students completing their student teaching requirements; or graduating seniors in their final semester.
Online-only students are not eligible.
Dependent coverage is only available for international students with J-1 status.
To complete a waiver, please go to aetnastudenthealth.com, search for Moody Bible Institute, click the Waive button and proceed as directed. You must fill in all the required information on the waiver form. If any information is missing, your waiver will not be accepted. When your online waiver form is successfully submitted you will receive a confirmation e-mail.

Is the student health insurance comprehensive i.e., includes hospitalization if needed?
Yes, the plan offered is ACA compliant and covers all Essential Health Benefits. It is rated as a Platinum level plan for those familiar with metal levels for ACA plans.
Does the student health insurance include dental coverage?
The Moody Bible Institute Student Health Insurance Plan offers pediatric dental benefits. Please refer to the Wellfleet Certificate for additional information on this coverage.
What is the coverage period?
The plan runs for 12 months (the full academic year, 8/11/2025 – 8/10/2026) if you meet the eligibility requirements.
Does the student health insurance cover student medical expenses off campus or when traveling (e.g., to home state)?
Yes, the Moody Bible Institute Student Health Insurance Plan uses the Aetna Open Choice PPO network which is recognized nationally. As always, please confirm with the provider that they are in-network before services are rendered.

What happens if my waiver application is denied?
All students are required to carry medical insurance that offers comprehensive access to care. If your waiver application is denied for not meeting the Moody Bible Institute requirements, you will be required to take Moody Bible Institute’s Student Health Insurance. Should you choose to appeal a denied waiver, please follow the instructions provided on your denied waiver email from Aetna.
What happens if I lose my own or my parent’s coverage mid-semester? Can I join the Moody Bible Institute Student Health Insurance Plan?
You may be eligible to join the plan mid-semester if you experience a Qualifying Life Event (QLE,) such as loss of coverage. Please contact Malinda Townsend at malinda.townsend@usi.com for more information should you experience a QLE.
