All degree-seeking and visiting law and undergraduate students (including students enrolled in the Academic English Studies Program, Off-Campus and Overseas Programs) at Lewis & Clark are required to carry medical insurance coverage comparable to that offered through the school’s Student Health Insurance Plan. These students are automatically enrolled in the student health insurance program, but can easily waive enrollment if they have other health insurance coverage that is comparable to the coverage offered by the college.
To waive Student Health Insurance Plan coverage, you will need to have your other health insurance information available before you begin the online waiver form. You will be asked to provide your current health insurance information on the waiver form, such as your carrier’s phone number and your policy number.
To waive coverage, visit waive.pacificsource.com/lewi by September 19, 2023.
Your plan must meet the following requirements to waive coverage:
Note: These waivers are not audited for accuracy. It is your responsibility to confirm compatibility before waiving coverage.
Students are given one opportunity to waive coverage for the academic year at the beginning of the fall semester, with the exception of spring waivers for students newly admitted for spring term and student’s returning from leave of absence or a study abroad program for the spring semester. If you’re a student newly admitted for spring term, visit pacificsource.com/lewi to waive coverage by February 2, 2024.
If you have any questions regarding health insurance waiver rules or timelines, please contact Lewis & Clark Student Accounts at 503-768-7829.
You are eligible to purchase student health insurance if taking 6 credits or more. See the table below for enrollment periods. You must re-enroll in coverage each semester. Premium is paid directly to PacificSource at the time of enrollment.

Is the student health insurance comprehensive, i.e., includes hospitalization if needed?
Yes, the plan offered is ACA compliant and covers all Essential Health Benefits. It is rated as a Gold level plan for those familiar with metal levels for ACA plans.
Does the coverage last for 12 months?
Yes, if enrolled in the fall semester, the plan is a 12-month plan from 8/15/2023- 8/14/2024. Costs are divided between fall and spring semester. Students are given one opportunity to waive for the academic year at the beginning of the fall semester, with the exception of spring waivers for students newly admitted for spring term and student’s returning from a leave of absence or study abroad program for the spring semester. Enrollment is available at any point in the year for students experiencing Qualifying Life Event (i.e. parents lose current coverage, student ages out of the parent’s plan, etc.). Coverage for students newly admitted for the spring semester will be effective at the beginning of the spring semester.
What is in-network near the college in case of needing hospital or urgent care? I don’t live in Portland, so names of practices don’t mean much to me.
The current options include but are not limited to: Legacy Health, Legacy Health Partners, The Portland Clinic, and OHSU. Urgent cares such as Zoom and Legacy Go Health are in-network. However, contracts can frequently change and we recommend confirming with the provider close to the date of service that they are in-network. To help with this process, you can use the Find a Doctor tool on PacificSource’s website and search by entering your zip code to narrow the results for your preferred area.
Does the student health insurance cover student medical expenses off campus or when traveling, or back in a home state?
Yes, the student health insurance covers medical expenses while off campus, when traveling, and when in a home state.
What are the deductibles and copays?
Does Medicaid from other states qualify a student to waive PacificSource coverage?
Unfortunately, Medicaid plans from other states generally DO NOT meet the college’s requirements for health insurance, because these plans provide only emergency and/or urgent care in the Portland area. Additional information for Medicaid participants can be found at lclark.edu/offices/health_service/insurance/for-medicaid-participants.
